DAAAAMMM!!!!! That's some complex chit!! LOL I managed to figure out a couple of views, and to basically handle the aircraft, (stick and rudder) I also attempted 2 landings- first one good, second one short (crashed)
You can really set it up nicely, I have it on one the most difficult settings, figuring that's the best way to get good at it. There is a list of keyboard commands on the lock on site. I have them strewn about my desk. Only 2 aircraft on the demo, an A10 and a MiG 29. Have not flown the MiG yet.
Print the "read me" file- otherwise you'll be flying dumb as a brick- mission goals are not apparent! There is a waypoint "pin" or "pointer on the HUD, but nothing is done for you!! YEEE hah!! haairy!!
No automatic target acquistion, no waypoint comments, (attack clayton)
The radar is not set up for ground acquisition. You power it up, select mode, sweep, all of it.
Weps?- same deal. Get busy!
If the man has to do it in the real plane- so do you.
Like I said I have it on a difficult setting, and that's where it's going to stay. Im sure it can be made more simple than I have it.
The keyboard functions are incredibly complex- they will take a while to get acclimated with. They are also subject to change per the producer that posted them.
There are TONS of views- almost too many. Also the mouse is the pilot's head- im finding it might be easier to operate mouse with left hand so as not to let go of stick (bad idea)
All in all it ROCKS!! But the initial setup will be a bear for sure. Speedy, Im envious of that stick you bought, cause the more buttons you can customize on this one the better, the default settings for my stick (MSPP2) need plenty of help. I think I will make a key map of some type- with some heavy paper cut to fit over the F keys.

[glow=red,2,300] Sounds great Kon where did you download it from ? I tried twice to down load it from the site that was posted on the Fuse forum but when I went to install it it tried installing different programs!!!! . I was also dissapointed to discover the release date over here has been delayed another couple of months [/glow]

OK finally managed to download it your right it is hard. The only trouble is the program is a bit unstable and tends to crash now and again but will definitely buy it when it comes out

Been playing some more- LOL the MiG is a lot harder than the warthog OMG.. There's no pitch ladder, but a rudimentary roll indicator and a +/- number indicating pitch. The mission sends a mirage crossing your path from left to right, but turning inside. No matter how hard I swing around, I can't seem to line him up to fire. Getting better with the hog- I read the "read me" (pfft.. a guy asking for directions ) and lo and behold some intel! SO i blew up some vehicles, until I received the bingo call- and tried to figure out how to navigate back to base. Waypoint ID's are probably there, but dammed if I know where to look. I found it somehow (by accident) and landed successfully. Taxiing is a hoot- I guess I can't refuel anywhere, no info on that yet. One glitch, or issue that i had was the D key- which cycles the weps. It seemed to quit working. I assumed I was out of rockets, for example, when it quit cycling, only to have them activate on final approach. Maybe a glitch, maybe something has to be locked on- learning. I also had a couple of lock ups, sound continued, but i had a couple of screen freezes. When it let loose, it performed the functions attempted during the lockup in rapid succession. A few sound glitches, too- all to be expected from beta version.

It is a hoot!! BTW the D key issue was not a glitch- IN order to cycle weps you must first power down/ safe the gun- by pushing C. Then you can select heavy ordnance.

After a couple of years of playing IL-2(another Ubisoft flight sim), I decided to skip Lock-On. The graphics look awesome, and the playability looks great, and sounds pretty good too. But the multiplayer aspect of the game sounds like it will be a big disappointment. Basically, Deathmatch style game, or player designed cooperative missions. The Co-op missions in IL-2 were really disappointing. And the DM games were also boring. I enjoy games, but if the multiplayer component is not worth the effort, I'm bored with it in a month or two.

Yeah, the multiplayer is certainly not going to be anywhere near the caliber that the realism and accuracy are. I'll be playing lock on, but as long as we are in L3, I'll be here too. Despite their sorry ass service to the games, there's no subsitute for the simple, flexible multiplayer setup that Novaworld has. Besides, I'm not much into hours of dogfighting. RAW format is far more of a challenge.

OMG that MiG is something else to fly, Man it will humble you fast!! So far, I can only drop him if I kill him instantly upon arrival in the game. You have about 5 seconds to turn on boresite mode on the air to air missile (RF guided), turn radar on, lock the target, and release the weapon. If you miss or it gets by you, you are then forced to use 1 of 2 types of padlock view, one is incredibly disorientating, mainly cause I cant turn the freakin view OFF, once I'm on it. SO im trying it again using what appears to be a friendly type of padlock view called "air combat view" (F5). Friendly means i can switch in & out of it. I want to get into a fight with the thing, get some better practice in. HArd, dam hard game. LOL

Ok, I got Lock On. I could use all the tips anyone can give. Not a big fan of reading manuals but it looks like I have no other choice....

Yep Tommy you'll have to do some reading. No way around it. The training missions are ok, but nothing like getting out there and messing with it yerself. The A-10 is the easiest to learn on as it lacks radar, and a lot of other whiz bang gadgetry. The F15 is seriously bugged right now in several radar/ targeting modes, but the 1.02 patch coming in a couple weeks or so is paying special attention to the F-15. As in real life, it will be the dominant platform in the game. The one that I fly most of the time now is the SU-33. If we ever go to lock on as a raw squad- this thing will handle our style. Awesome combo of air to air. air to ground, and marine ops! (carrier) FYI- although the current MP setup is lacking somewhat, it appears that MAtt "wags" Wagner has plans to seriously upgrade the ubi.com experience. Right now ubi.com is hardly used - Hyperlobby is the main independent host setup. If you have a good mission maker- hosting your own room is a hoot. Limited capacity, got to turn your effects/ graphics down but let me tell you. lock-on at it's worst possible settings is 100x better than L3 in the graphics. all these pics are at low settings If they would only set up some Nova style dedicated servers that weren't cruel to the varying connections out there then we would be all set!

Two weeks ago I paid $39.99 for Lock On. I went into Staples yesterday and it was in the clearance bin for $9.99 Canadian (With the exchange rate I think they were giving it out free to Americans ). They had about 20 copies. Talk about taking one in the six...ouch!!! If anyone wants a copy, let me know.
