Sold my third child and bought a XFX GeForce 6600GT video card to play Half-Life 2, expecting L3 to play the same. No such luck. No matter what L3 game settings I have, it's not quite right. With 3D acceleration on, I get weird unplayable effects like multiple images. With DirectX6 off, voodoo glide on, it's like playing underwater, and low frame rates, but barely playable. When I installed the new card, it also installed DirectX 9.0, now I'm thinking maybe that's the problem. Unless I fix this, I may have to put the old card back in. You'd think new video cards would be backwards compatible, even with a dinosaur like L3. Anyway, I'm rambling, so if anyone has a possible solution, lemme know.

Well D, your First Problem is the GeForce.. I had a geForce in the Alienware, and it coldnt handle L-3 or Pacific Fighter.. Took it to the Shop and Had them Install a Radion 9600 Pro and Reformatted every thing.. Found out I was having a Short in the sound Card (witch was Not as Good as the Prime sound card) So thay Trashed that and with 1.5 gig Ram, everything is running sweet.... But I'm Not as Lucky as Konny with his Radion X800

I think both the ATi & nvidia sites will have a small utility that will wipe out the remnants of the old drivers.

After uninstalling nVidia drivers, reboot and look in these folders for and delete...... C:windows/system for anything nv...... C:windows/inf for drvdata.bin, drvidx.bin, nv.inf......... C:win/inf/other for nv.inf. Delete those files, then install DirectX, then install new drivers.

Deleted some driver remnants, downloaded Driver Cleaner, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for motherboard, monitor, DirectX 9.0, video card. Half-Life 2 runs great, but L3 still seems like I’m losing frames. Could be HL2 took up almost my whole hard drive, or maybe I just need a faster processor. Good news is I can see bullets in L3 now ;D Thanks anyway for your suggestions.
