Well, my wife rented me a couple of movies to watch on the plane rides this week. One of them was the Civil War epic, God and Generals. Here is it's rating on the CM movie review system: Here's why: Apparently, no one spoke to one another in the 1860's...just made dramatic, heavy handed speeches. Apparently, the director never saw "Saving Private Ryan", the ante has been upped fow war movies. Either make it realistic, or go make "Finding Nemo 2". C. Thomas Howell as a Confederate Lieutenant?(anyone remember "Side Out"?) Miro Sorvino as an 1860's housewife? On the flip side...it was nice to Bruce Boxleitner in a major motion picture....always like "Scarecrow and Mrs King". The pace of the movie was far too slow and, for the amount of time they took, they couldn't even string things together very well...some of the scenes were chopped together, and only explained with subtitles(I heard the movie was originally 5 hours long and edited down...) Maybe they shouldn't have spent 15 minutes on the opening credits! This is how the movie explains "Stonewall" Jackson's nickname: During a battle, as the Union soldiers are pounding the Confederates, one of the soldiers turns and points dramatically at General Jackson atop the hill and declares "Look at our leader, he stands as a stone wall amidst the battle! Turn and fight, boys!" ...Please...
