a few weeks ago, i watched Underworld... it has Kate Beckinsdale... it has vampires... it has werewolves... it has a dark, permeating gothic atmosphere... it has guns and tight, black leather... it should rule... it does not... aside from a couple neato transformations (Rick Baker did as good a job w/o computers in American Werewolf in London, thank you very much, but that's just me), a neat fight here and there, some cool visuals, and Kate Beckinsdale in black leather, this movie blows....
the last sequence of the movie--in particular--irked me... one would have hoped that the bastard hybrid of a vampire and werewolf would look a LOT cooler than a shirtless Scott Speedman with dark skin makeup and contacts lenses... and the end of the movie teases the viewer with a possible sequel?!
wtf? where's my fcuking $9.50?!

To offer an opposing view... I actually like Underworld quite a bit. I thought they cut out alot of the extra BS that ruins some movies and told a pretty good story. The transformations were pretty cool...the bone cracking and all that. The action was pretty good, but not spectacular. One good point about the acton was that they did not overuse certain effects(ie: Matrix Reloaded). The actions scenes were terse, tight, and, most importantly, brief. And Kate Beckinsale was pretty good...and looked pretty good in the outfit. Now...having said this, I won't be surprised come March and Underworld gets overlooked at the Oscars...
